File name TVP0496.pdf CONFIDENTIAL CSV-1 Sony Service Company National Technical Services Service Bulletin A Division of Sony Electronics Inc. Park Ridge, New Jersey 07656 TV Products Model: KW-34HD1 No. 496 Subject: Test Patterns Available From Digital Date: August 11, 2000 Receiver/Decoder Box. Symptom: (****) The digital receiver/decoder box (also known as the set-back box or "SBB") included with the KW-34HD1 can be used to generate test patterns for both standard definition and high definition adjustment modes if the SBB firmware version is 1.51 or higher. The test patterns are viewable on the KW-34HD1 only; they cannot be viewed on any other model TV. Solution: Follow the procedure below to determine the SBB's firmware version and to use the test patterns for adjusting the TV. Identifying the version of firmware in the SBB: a. Enter the service mode (refer to page 36 of the service manual for instructions on using the service mode if necessary). b. Select device item "DTV". c. Select register item "AGCL". d. Set the data to "1". e. Read the SBB firmware version at the bottom of the display. The SBB firmware is displayed in white characters in the following format: "nn.nn/nnnnnn, date of firmware, time of firmware" Example: "02.20/00090 Nov 03 1999 14:23:19" The version of the firmware is the first 4 characters. In the example above the version is 02.20. Do not confuse the SBB firmware version number with the TV's firmware version which also appears on the display at the same time. The SBB firmware version appears in white characters, the TV firmware version appears in green characters. Using The Test Patterns Checking picture size, position, geometry and convergence (NTSC FULL mode) 1- Tune the TV to a DTV channel, then turn the TV off. 2- Enter the service mode and select device item "DTV" and adjustment item "AGCL". 3- Change the data of adjustment item "AGCL" from "0" to "3". This brings up the first of the built-in test patterns (color bars in 1080i full-screen mode). The rest of the patterns are as follows: Reference: PRINTED IN USA TV Products Servic |
