File name CAR0397.PDF Car Stereo CSA-14 Service Bulletin Sony Service Company - Technical Services A Division of Sony Electronics Inc. Sony Drive, Park Ridge, New Jersey 07656 Model: CDX-5070, CDX-5270, CDX-5470, CDX-5090, No. 397 CDX-5290, CDX-5490, CDX-C490, CDX-C590, EXCD-90 Subject: Optical Pickup/Servo Board Incompatibility. Date: April 4, 1996 Symptom: (**) The CD mechanisms of the above mentioned models may have been produced with 2 different optical pickup assemblies and 2 different Servo boards. There is no interchangeability between the Servo boards nor the optical pickup assemblies. If the KSS-313A pickup is connected to a Servo board designed for use with the KSS- 410A pickup the unit will not work. If the KSS-410A pickup is connected to the Servo board designed for use with the KSS-313A, the unit will not work and damage to the small flex cable found beneath the black plastic shell around the pickup may occur. If a KSS-410A pickup with the damaged flex cable is then connected to the correct Servo board, the unit may work, but the performance may be poor, particularly when the unit tries to lock on track after an AMS operation has been performed. Solution: If you replace the Servo board or optical pickup assembly during servicing, make sure that the new part you install has compatibility. Refer to the chart below for acceptable combinations of parts.
