File name MAX1992 - Quick-PWM Step-Down Controllers with Inductor Saturation Protection and Dynamic Output Vol 19-2661; Rev 0; 10/02 Quick-PWM Step-Down Controllers with Inductor Saturation Protection and Dynamic Output Voltages General Description Features MAX1992/MAX1993 The MAX1992/MAX1993 pulse-width modulation (PWM) o Inductor Saturation Protection controllers provide high-efficiency, excellent transient response, and high DC output accuracy. The devices o Accurate Current Limit step down high-voltage batteries to generate low- o Ultra-High Efficiency voltage CPU core or chipset/RAM supplies in notebook o Quick-PWM with 100ns Load-Step Response computers. o MAX1992 Maxim's proprietary Quick-PWMTM quick-response, con- stant on-time PWM control scheme handles wide 1.8V/2.5V Fixed or 0.7V to 5.5V Adjustable input/output voltage ratios with ease and provides 100ns Output Range "instant-on" response to load transients, while maintaining o MAX1993 a relatively constant switching frequency. Efficiency is External Reference Input enhanced by the ability to drive very large synchronous- Dynamically Selectable Output Voltage rectifier MOSFETs. Current sensing to ensure reliable (0.7V to 5.5V) overload and inductor saturation protection is available Optional Power-Good and Fault Blanking using an external current-sense resistor in series with the During Transitions output. Alternatively, the controller can sense the current across the synchronous rectifier alone or use lossless o |
