06.01 TYPENUMBER(S): Philips CD-recorders and copy-protected Audio CDs
INFORMATION : A number of music record companies have introduced so-called
"copy-protected" CDs. These CDs aim to obstruct copying to CDR
discs via the PC while they are supposed to play on conventional CD-
players.
However, in practice, the copy-protected CDs might not play on all
models of Audio CD-recorders, DVD-recorders, PC-drives and in-car
CD-players because these CDs are no longer in accordance with the
CD Red Book specification.
If you get complaints from customers facing playback problems,
please inform them that the CD is likely to be faulty, and advice the
customers to take the CD back to the shop and ask for refund. We
suggest refraining from debates about details of the copy-protection
technology, as this technology is being applied by the music record
company, and not by Philips.
