2. System Requirements

- This software is licensed, and a software security key is required for full
operation. However, the software does offer five (5) free trials per
application title for evaluation purposes. Once these five free trials are
exhausted, a software security key may be purchased from Tektronix to
permanently enable the software application on your oscilloscope.

- The TDSJIT3A and TDSJIT3E applications are compatible with all four-channel
DPO70K, DSA70K, DPO7K, TDS7KB, TDS7K, CSA7KB, TDS6KB, TDS6KC and TDS5KB
series oscilloscopes.

- The application requires latest TekScope Software and instrument drivers.
The latest Tekscope Software can be found using the myTek software and
firmware finder from Tektronix website at:

http://www.tek.com/site/sw/search/

- The application requires the Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating system
(see base instrument operating system requirements).

- The application requires Sun Microsystems' Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
version 1.4.2_04; it will automatically be installed with TDSJIT3A and
TDSJIT3E if they are not already on your oscilloscope. If the JRE is
deleted, restore it through the TDSJIT3A and TDSJIT3E installation.

- 512 MB or more of (windows) system memory is required. 1GB is highly
recommended, particularly if the scope has extended acquisition memory.

- Disk space requirements:
* Installation files: installing this application and its on-line help
requires ~30 MB
* JRE virtual memory: The Java Runtime Engine (JRE) is given an upper
limit that depends on the amount of windows memory
installed. This will directly impact the minimum
allowable size of the windows virtual memory (swap
space). If the amount of physical windows memory
in the scope is modified, TDSJIT3A or TDSJIT3E
should be reinstalled so that the JRE memory limits
are properly updated.

- Keyboard:
Save/Recall, Statistics, Measurement, and Waveform Logging features require
the use of a keyboard to enter file or folder names.

- Mouse:
Though a mouse is not required, we highly recommend its use with this
product.

- The best MS Windows(TM) task bar settings for running this application with
a mouse but without a keyboard are:
Always on top = checked
Auto Hide = checked
When the application is used with a mouse only, this allows you to access
previously minimized plots from the task bar while keeping its visibility
to a minimum. This change should be done prior to starting TDSJIT3v2 or
the position or the application will not be entirely in the lower half
screen.

5. Known Issues

* This application is extremely computationally intensive and is a heavy
consumer of memory and disk resources. If record lengths of 40 Meg or
greater are acquired and analyzed, the number of measurements should be
limited to no more than four, with no more than one Rj/Dj Analysis operation
enabled at a time. It may be necessary to increase the Windows virtual
memory settings. At times when the processing load is extremely high, the
blinking status indicator in the lower right corner of the user interface
may stop blinking for up to a minute, giving the appearance that the
application or the scope is hung. If allowed, they will normally recover
and complete the analysis without intervention.

* The configuration of any measurement filters is not included in log files.

* User accounts that are set up as restricted users may not be able to save
setup files.

* When the application is undocked (File->Undock) and the scope user
interface returns to full-screen, the scope user interface can come to
the foreground and obscure the TDSJIT3A or TDSJIT3E user interface. If
this happens, use Alt-Tab to bring TDSJIT3A or TDSJIT3E to the foreground
or minimize the TekScope interface (File->Minimize), move the TDSJIT3A or
TDSJIT3E interface to a second monitor, and then restore the TekScope
interface.

* When using a secondary monitor, the Display Properties > Settings for [Color
Quality] of the secondary monitor must match those of the Scope's LCD Display.

* Many versions of scope firmware allow four separate zoom windows. The
TDSJIT3A or TDSJIT3E application does not support four zoom windows for its
zoom-gating function. If using this function, we recommend that you only
use the first zoom window while operating TDSJIT3A or TDSJIT3E.

* A query following the GPIB command 'variable:value "resultFor","measN"'
should return "Busy" until the command is complete. The query instead may
cause a GPIB time-out. If this occurs, we recommend that you wait one
second after sending the command before reading results, instead of
polling for a Busy response.

6. Installation

Normally, the TDSJIT3A/TDSJIT3E application resides on the hard drive of
your oscilloscope. If the application is not installed on the hard disk,
perform the following steps to install the application from the Optional
Applications Software on a Windows-Based Oscilloscope Compact disc (CD-ROM):

1. If the mouse is not installed, connect it to the oscilloscope or use
the touchscreen (if available).

2. Power on the oscilloscope to start Windows.

3. Install the optional applications software CD in the CD-ROM reader
of the oscilloscope.

4. The autorun utility will start the installation program. If the autorun
utility doesn't start up automatically, browse to the CDROM and
double-click the launch.exe.

5. Select the option 'Jitter and Timing Analysis'. Note that the
installation process installs both TDSJIT3v2A and TDSJIT3v2E.

6. Follow the instructions given by the InstallShield Wizard. If the Java
Run-time Environment (JRE 1.4.2) software is not currently installed
then the InstallShield Wizard will prompt to install it. Click "OK"
when prompted for installing JRE 1.4.2 and accept all defaults in the
JRE's installation wizard, however, if prompted to reboot after JRE
install, select No.

7. The oscilloscope must reboot to complete the installation process.

8. You may need to enter the authorized Option Installation Key to enable
the application. The key is specific to the serialized oscilloscope and
options for which it was purchased. To enter the key number, follow
these steps:

a. Maximize the oscilloscope user interface if it is currently minimized.

b. If the oscilloscope is in the toolbar mode (default), select
the Menu button (upper right corner of the display) to put the
oscilloscope into menu-bar mode. In menu-bar mode you should see a
PC-style menu across the top of the display.

c. Go to the Utilities menu in the menu bar and select
Option Installation.

d. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter the alphanumeric key
number exactly as it is printed on the rear-panel label.

The TDSJIT3A / TDSJIT3E application is now ready for use. Depending on your
scope model, it can be found on the File->Run Application or App or Analyze menu.

You may install and later uninstall TDSJIT3A/TDSJIT3E on your oscilloscope
without affecting an existing installation of TDSJIT3.

If the amount of physical windows memory on the oscilloscope is modified,
you must reinstall TDSJIT3A/TDSJIT3E so that the application is optimally
configured to use the memory.
