1. System Requirements

- TDSCPM2 Application is targeted towards DPO 7000,DPO/DSA70000,CSA7000/B,TDS7000/B,TDS6000B/C series
and TDS5000B oscilloscopes. (Note: TDS7000/B and TDS5000B require
Option SM).

- The latest version of the software can be downloaded from Tektronix web site.

- Sun Microsystems Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4.2 will
automatically be installed by the TDSCPM2 Installer on the oscilloscope in:
C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.4.2
If you need to re-install JRE V1.4.2 do not install the JRE on the CD.
Re-Install the TDSCPM2 distribution

- This software download offers Five Free Trials for evaluation.
Once the five free trials are exhausted, a software security
key may be purchased from Tektronix to permanently enable the software
application on your oscilloscope.

- Disk space requirements: 55Mb of free disk space to install and operate this
application.

4. Known Limitations
1. TDSCPM2 has a known limitation by which remote GPIB "Pause"
command does not always have the desired effect of pausing the
application when in free-run. The workaround for this problem is to issue
the "Ready" command instead which simply stops free-run.

2. TDSCPM2 E3 pulse width symmetry tests can provide failing results on lower
bandwidth instruments (TDS7104's) which otherwise pass on higher
performance instruments (CSA7404's). This is due to the statistical
nature with which the crossing threshold reference levels are chosen which
tends to be less stable on lower bandwidth instrumentation. The stability
of these measurements can be greatly improved by turning on Measurement >
Gating > Cursor, and putting the cursor on the flat area immediately
adjacent to the positive or negative pulse. Ideally these cursors would
be 1 Unit Interval apart. This technique should be considered a
work-around if failures in E3 pulse symmetry occur.

3. Do not attempt to run any application from the TekScope File>Run Program
menu at the same time that you are running any of the demos in the OpenChoice
folder on your oscilloscope Desktop. Exit from the currently running demo
or application before starting another demo or application.

4. TDSCPM2 will not restore the original scope settings when "Yes" is selected
in the Exit dialog box section labeled: "Restore Scope Settings?" After
TDSCPM2 exits, to retrieve the original scope settings, the user must use the
"Recall Settings from file", in the Scope menu, File > "Instrument Setup..."
and select the file: C:\scopeOriginal.set

5.TDSCPM2 has a known limitation which causes java error when the application is closed
using the remote GPIB "exit" command

5. Installation

Normally, the TDSCPM2 application resides on the hard drive of your
oscilloscope. If application is not installed on hard disk perform
the following steps to install the application from the Optional
Applications Software on a Windows-Based Oscilloscope Compact disc (CD-ROM)

1. If the keyboard is not installed, connect it to the oscilloscope rear panel
(the optional-accessory keyboard plugs into the USB connector).
2. Power on the oscilloscope to start Windows.
3. Install the optional applications software CD in the CD-ROM reader
of the oscilloscope.
4. The autorun utility will start the installation program. If the autorun
utility doesn't start up automatically, browse to the CDROM and double-click
the launch.exe.

5. Select the option 'Install Products'.
6. Select the option 'Communications Pulse Measurements'.
7. Select the option 'Install Now'.

8. Follow the instructions given by the InstallShield Wizard. If Java Run-time
Environment (JRE 1.4.2) software is not previously installed then the
InstallShield Wizard will prompt for installing it. Click "Yes" when
prompted for installing JRE 1.4.2 and the InstallShield will install it.
The oscilloscope must reboot to complete the installation process.

9. You will need to enter the authorized Option Installation Key to enable the
application. The key is specific to the serialized oscilloscope and options
for which it was purchased. To enter the key number, follow these steps:

a. If the oscilloscope powered on in the toolbar mode (default), select
the Menu button (upper right corner of the display) to put the
oscilloscope into menu-bar mode. In menu-bar mode you should see a
PC-style menu across the top of the display.
b. Go to the Utilities menu in the menu bar and select Option
Installation.
c. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter the alphanumeric key
number exactly as it is printed on the rear-panel label.

-- The TDSCPM2 application is now ready for use. See "Starting the Applicatoin"
