5.1.4Measurement on the SCART_TV selection signal This signal is for the TV/DVD selection use. It also contains the signal for 16:9 SCART TV acknowledge. Selection of 16:9 and 4:3 DVD mode is done by "Setup Menu/Screen Setup/TV type". "4:3 PS" or 4:3 LB" will send the 4:3 acknowledge signal to TV while "16:9" will send the 16:9 acknowledge signal. TV/DVD selection will happen when the player go to Standby Mode or Power Off Mode. Under this operation mode, the player will release the SCART TV for TV boardcast reception. Procedure on checking the TV/DVD mode selection signal. Check the transistor Q42 with the voltage on the pin as shown below :16:9 DVD Mode : c = 7V, b = 0V, e = 0V. 4:3 DVD Mode : c = 12V, b = 0V, e = 0V. TV/Standby Mode : c = 0.2V, b = 0.7V, e = 0V. Check the transistor Q46 with the voltage on the pin as shown below :16:9 DVD Mode : c = 0.2V, b = 0.7V, e = 0V. 4:3 DVD Mode : c = 12V, b = 0V, e = 0V. TV Mode : c = 0V, b = 0V, e = 0V. Step on Checking Q42:-
9
If c pin of the Q42 cannot go over 5V, check R47. It should connect to the 12V source and output 12V or 7V if the player is Power ON. When the Player is Power On, if b pin of the Q42 do not match to the voltage mentioned above, please check R50. It should be 0V. In standby Mode, 4.8V and 0.7V should appear on R50. If in Standby Mode, service engineer cannot find the 4.8V on R50, please upgrade the firmware. If problem insist, it should be the CT99420 chip problem. Check the connectivity of e pin of Q42 to Ground. Otherwise, try to replace with a new transistor. Step on Checking Q46:When the player is Power On, with the TV type selected as 4:3, Q46 c pin should have 12V. When the TV type selected as 16:9, the voltage on this pin should be 7V. When the Player is in 4:3 TV type Mode, the voltage on the b pin should be 0V. Only if the player is in 16:9 Aspect ratio, Q46 will turn On and sink the control signal to 7V. The potential appears on R225 will then be 7V and 0V. Check the connectivity of e pin of Q46 to ground. Otherwise, try to replace with a new transistor. Procedure (For YUV Model) 5.2.1 Select the item "SCREEN SETUP/VIDEO OUT/YUV" Measure the voltage on the YUV jack at the back plate.

Chapter 6. Check on the Front Panel Precaution Power On the Player. No Disc in Loader. Procedure 6.1 Press the Standby Button to check the Standby LED. If it is not working, try to short R10. If problem insists, check the soldering of the LED or replace with a New LED. 6.2 Check the Remote receiver on the front panel. Pin 1 and pin 3 of the IR receiver should be 5V. 6.3 If the key did not work, unplug the player and check short/open circuit on the Key. Keys should have short circuit horizontally and open circuit vertically. However, if the Key is pressed, the Key is shorted vertically also. 6.4 If the VFD didn't light up, checks pin 1 of the JP3. There should have a -21V on this pin. Turn off the Power and unplug JP3 to identify the problem on short circuit on front panel board or the Power Supply failure. 6.5 Segment and Grid pin of the VFD plate should be isolated. If there have short circuit on these 2 groups of pin, check the front panel PCB. Visual inspection is enough for checking the VFD short. If problem insists, unmount the VFD plate and check the connectivity again. If there have short, then the VFD plate have burn already and have to replace with a new one. 6.6 If there have horizontal red lines on the VFD plate, check the connectivity of AC3 pin. There have 2 AC3 pins on the front panel board and it should have 3V potential difference only. Open circuit of either pin will burst the VFD plate. Note that the AC3 pins should have a negative potential so measurement should be made with positive terminal on the Ground Pin. 6.7 If there have erroneous pattern shown on the VFD, check the pull-up resistors of the Data, Clock and Strobe pins. The operating voltage for the front panel chip is 5V and the signal from the Main board is 3.3V only. 6.8 If the Key reception of the Front Panel is poor, try to increase the value of the resistor connected to OSC pin of the chip. VFD driving chip will be quite noise.

Chapter 7. Check on the Servo Interface Precaution The Player is Power On. The Loader is closed and No Disc in the Loader. Never Probe on J5 as it connects to the pickup directly, which is highly sensitive to ESD (Electro-Static Discharge). Procedure 7.1 Check with J19 some pins. It is the Traverse unit Motor interface. There should have the voltage appeared as listed in the table below :Pin No. 1 2 5 6 9 10 Voltage 2.5V 2.5V 2.5V 2.5V 5V 0V Action If no voltage, Check the Level of U19-pin 12. There should have 2.5V on this pin. If not, please proceed with 7.2. If no voltage, Check the Level of U4-pin 11. There should have 2.5V on this pin. If not, please proceed with 7.2. If no voltage, Check the Level of U4-pin 17. There should have 2.5V on this pin. If not, please proceed with 7.2. If no voltage, Check the Level of U4-pin 18. There should have 2.5V on this pin. If not, please proceed with 7.2. Pickup Intermost detection switch. Either 5V or 0V. Ground
7.2 Check U19-pin 8, U19-pin 9 and U19-pin21. It should connect to Vcc and have +5V during normal mode. 7.3 Check U19-pin 28. During Operation, it should always be +5V. Feeding incorrect voltage to this pin will disable the output of the motor driver chip (Muting of the Motor Driver). 7.4 Check U19-pin 27. It is the BIAS pin for the motor driver. It is fed by a regulated output so the voltage should always be same. The voltage should be +1.4V. Abnormal voltage fed into this pin will have the traverse operation unstable or malfunction. 7.5 Motor Control signals are supplied by the CT99420 directly and the operating voltage is 3.3V also. Control signal from the CT99420 will be 5V to 0V swing with middle level of 2.5V. AT5654 is linear motor driver.

8.2 Check U16 pin1 for 9V and pin 3, 7 for Ground if there is no movement during Loader OPEN/CLOSE. It is the Current Path the Loader Motor Driver. 8.3 Check that before Loader is Open or after the Loader have Close, the Traverse Unit will move to the center. TRIN is the Position switch for completely closed while TROUT is position switch for completely Open. Default level should be 5V as it is connect to CT99420 8.4 Check after Loader closed, disc detection will start and there should have RED light on the LEN of the Pickup. If there is no RED light, please try to replace with a new, working loader to check. Disc Detection Process usually will first try on DVD (Red Laser) then CD (Infra-Red laser). L7 should have 5V for turn on the DVD laser, while L6 have 5V for turn on CD laser. Note these 2 lasers should be operating exclusively. If the Loader do not have a Disc, then they will be On in the Disc Detection stage only. If a DVD is playing, L7 should always have 5V until the Disc is Stop. Similarly, if CD is playing, L6 should have 5V. Note : - Load Motor driving signal will be either 0V or 5V only. Incorrect voltage level will have the Loader drive to incorrect state.
13
Chapter 9. Check on the MPEG Decoding Unit Procedure 9.1 Power ON the Player. If the Front Panel show "LOAD" immediately but no further activity, it should be the SDRAM problem. Try to Replace U12. 9.2 If, the player cannot show the message "LOAD" in the front panel, please check the power supply of U15 PIN32 and U14 PIN 20 , it should be +5V 9.3 If it still show the message, it should be U15. Try to replace with a programmed flash memory.. 9.4 If the player stills cannot show the Video signal or VFD message, please check pin 1 of U1. One should measure a 1.6V for normal condition. 9.5 If the player still cannot startup, check on R201 another pin except +5V. it should have a short 0v pulse at the power up moment. After the player has power up, R201 should have +5V on both pins. It is the RESET signal of the CT9928. Extra-Note: 1. If the Screen show garbage, please power off the player, wait 5 seconds and power on again. If problem insists, check the humidity of the operating environment. Humid weather can make the player malfunction. 2. Also, Humid weather will lower down the performance of the Pickup. Try to dry the player with blower and reset the player. 3. Garbage screen player (especially Setup Menu) should be caused by the SDRAM. Please replace U12
