Model: DVD-2900, 2200
Subject: Change in the Optical Pick-up and other related parts.
Symptom: The production of the Optical Pick-up that has been used in the
subject models has completed and we will replace it with the HOP-1200WB.
Solution: Upon Replacement: It is necessary to replace the following parts
together upon replacement of the Traverse Ass'y, though the HOP-1200S and
the HOP-1200WB are electrically compatible:
1) You have to replace the FFC with the FPC since the shape and the position of
the FFC Base differ from the new FPC.
2) Then, the Tray has to be replaced with new one since the inner hole of the
Pick-up's sub-shaft side on the Tray has been widened.

5. MODIFICATION:
We will supply the following program files for updating the Back-end. Therefore,
please record the file on a blank CD-R, and update the firmware in the Back-end
on your customer's unit.
Cautions:
1) When recording the file(s) on a blank CD-R, the format shall be "ISO9660" and
the session shall be "CLOSE".
2) When recording the program file on the CD-R, please record it at the 4 or 8-
times speed of the normal speed.
3) When the 4-times speed is not available, please record it at the minimum
speed that is available in your machine.
4) If the file was recorded at a high speed, such as 32 or 48 times speed of the
normal speed, the upgrading may fail due to the data incorrectly recorded on the
CD-R.
Program files to be supplied this time:
1) For the DVD-2200: Name of the File: D22hnvdy.cfw
Version: 8339
2) For the DVD-2900: Name of the File: D29hnvdy.cfw
Version: 8337
5-1. The Update Procedures:
ESS BACK-END ROM
1) Updating the Back-end ROM, (DVD-2200):
(1) Connect the Video Output Terminal (VIDEO OUT or S-VIDEO OUT) of the
unit to a TV.
(2) Turn on the Power switch of the unit. Press the "OPEN/CLOSE" button and
open the Disc Tray.
(3) Put the CD-R (Ver.8339) for rewriting the Back-end on the Disc Tray, and
press the "OPEN/CLOSE" button.
(i.) The Disc Tray closes; the FL Display indicates "LOADING" and update of the
software is performed automatically.
(ii.) During the rewriting operation, "Updating Flash Memory" is indicated
repeatedly for approximately one minute, and Blue color appears finally.
(4) After indicating "COMPLETE" on the FL Display, the Disc Tray opens
automatically upon completion of the rewriting operation. Take out the Disc from
the Disc Tray.
(5) Turn off the Power switch of the unit once.

(2) Turn on the Power switch of the unit. Press the "OPEN/CLOSE" button and

(5) Turn off the Power switch of the unit once.
5-2) Confirmation of the Version:
(1) Turn off the Power switch of the unit once. While holding the "PLAY" and
"OPEN/CLOSE" buttons on the unit down simultaneously, switch the Power on.
(2) When " I>II (Play/Pause)" mark was indicated on the FL Display, press the
"MENU" button on the Remote Control is pressed. Confirm the following
versions.
Indication of each Version.
DVD-2200: (1) ESS: 8339 (2) DRV 060822
DVD-2900: (1) ESS: 8337 (2) DRV 060822
Cautions during the rewriting operation:
1) Do not turn the Power of the unit off during the rewriting operation.
2) If the unit remained indicating the "LOADING" without turning into
"COMPLETE" indication, wait longer than five minutes after closing the Disc Tray
and turn the Power switch off. Then, start the rewriting operation from the
beginning again.
Serial Number Range:
We will apply the above modification to production models beginning from the
following serial numbers. (Last 5-digit)
