Model: AVR-3808CI,
Subject: Correction of the Firmware via DPMS (Denon Product Manager
Server).
Symptom: 1) The scaling function of the HDMI input did not operate correctly
when the firmware was updated to the latest version.
2) Spelling error on web browser display.
3) Setup menu does not coordinate with receiver front panel setting.
4) When HDMI setting is set to TV pass through, some options should be grayed
out (not available)
5) The AVR-3808 appeared the Interpret and Title of song if you have selected
an Internet radio station. (old firmware 1.05) With the new firmware 1.60 we can't
see Interpret and Title of song. Only the name of radio station appears.
6) When the route of TwonkyMedia (4.4.4) is selected by "Net/USB function, it is
not possible to reproduce. (For only TwonkyMedia user)
Solution: The firmware has been corrected so no malfunction occurs.
Flow of update of the new firmware.
1) The customers noticed that A/V product happen a software problem.
2) If the customers have internet environment, the customers can update their
A/V product via DPMS (Denon Product Management Server) at any time by
Instruction Manual. Please instruct the "Preparation of the update" to the
customers.
3) If the customers do not have internet environment or the customers do not
ability or knowledge, the customer should send the product to a service
distributor as usual. Service distributor updates firmware using this scheme in
service bench.
METHOD OF UPDATE via DPMS (Denon Product Management Server)

Read me first! When you already updated the firmware via "DPMS", it is not
necessary to initialize the customer's unit again. At this time, please skip item "7-
1 Preparation of the update ".
Preparation for the update.
We didn't show this preparation Instruction on Instruction Manual. Please explain
additional this Instruction to the customers when updating the firmware.
Caution: It is necessary to initialize the unit before the update work begins. The
customer has to initialize their A/V product. Please update the firmware after you
confirm this matter to the customer beforehand.
1) Turn off the "Power switch" of unit.
2) Open the door on the front panel.
3) While holding the "" and "" buttons (SYSTEM CONTROL) down
simultaneously, turn the "Power switch" on.
4) The FL Display indicates all digits at interval a second.
5) Turn off the "Power switch" of the unit.
Updating the firmware (Refer to the Instruction Manual.)
1) Turn the Power Supply of the unit OFF.
2) Connect the Ethernet terminal of the unit to the Network line by Ethernet
straight cable. (Don't use Ethernet cross cable.)
3) The connection of the network recommends the Ethernet cable for certain
update.
4) Turn the units Power ON.
5) The unit sets the Internet. Wait for about two minutes until customer's router
ends the setting.
Caution: The update doesn't succeed when the customer's set cannot hook up to
the Internet correctly. In this case, please confirm the internet environment of the
customer house. Whether it be able to be received the Internet radio correctly or
is no whether the Internet is connected can be judged. There are some problems
under the internet environment when the Internet radio can not be received.
6) Press "MENU" button on the front panel and indicates the GUI menu.
7) Press "CURSOR" button.
8) The GUI indicates, "MANUAL SETUP" > "OPTION SETUP" > "Firmware
Update".
Caution: The update interrupts when it is not possible to connect it with the
Internet correctly. In this case, please do from step #1 again.

9) Select the "Start" on GUI.

10) Press the "ENTER" button.
11) The firmware will start updating.
Caution: When the firmware update starts correctly, the GUI and the audio
signal, etc. stops and become the update operation.
12) The GUI display disappears, and becomes only FL display.
13) During the updating process, the FL Display indicates the procedure of
update the firmware. Time necessary for update: approximately 40 min.
Caution: The update time might change depending on the situation of the DPMS
server and the speed of the Internet environment of the customer house.
14) After upgrading, the FL Display indicates below.

15) The unit initializes automatically.
When the unit already updated the latest firmware, the FL Display indicates
following indication.
Troubleshooting: If the display reads as shown below, check the settings and
the network environment, then update again. The problem is not in the Internet
connection if the Internet radio can be received correctly.

Cautions during the updating operation:
1) Please do not turn off the setting of "DHCP" when you update the unit.
(Initialization is turning on.) Please execute it under the guidance of the IT staff
with computer skills when the setting of "DHCP" is unavoidably turned off by
limiting the electronic environment, and you set IP Address, the subnet mask, the
default gateway, and DNS, etc. for myself. If you make a mistake in the setting
with "DHCP" turned off, the unit might not operate, and in the worst situation the
unit can be damaged. Please do not touch the setting of "DHCP" except in
special circumstances.
2) When the customer use "Netgear router 614 Series" for updating, "uPnP"
have to deactivate in the router.
3) Do not turn off the Power of the unit during the updating operation.

4) If the Display has kept indicating fixed during the updating operation, wait
longer than total updating time. Then, turn off the Power of the unit and start the
updating operation from the beginning again.
5) The unit doesn't break down while updating it when the power supply of the
unit is turned off or the cable of the Internet is pulled out.
6) Please turn off and turn on the power supply when the unit becomes unstable.
7) Please execute initialization when it is not improved. Still, please repair by
service when it is not improved.
Confirming the firmware's number after upgraded: After completion of the
updating operation, the new version number can be confirmed by starting up the
A/V Receiver according to the following procedure. With the following operation,
the A/V Receiver can be set to the Flash-ROM Version-Number Confirmation
Mode. Turn the power of the A/V Receiver on, while holding both "STATUS"
button and "RETURN" button on the front panel simultaneously.
Every time the "STATUS" Button is pressed, version numbers of the MAIN, SUB,
etc. are indicated on the front panel section in the following order.

The above modification has been applied to production models beginning from
the following serial numbers. (Last 5-digits)
