Main PCB 1.3.1 CPU The CPU is a Motorola MC68EC020FG25 which is driven with a clock frequency of 24.54217MHz. This clock frequency is made by the oscillator circuit of the ASIC. The CPU has a 24 bits address bus of A0-A23 and a 32 bits data bus of D0-D31. The total memory space of the CPU is 16 MBytes. Its package is a 160-pin QFP. The interrupts for the CPU is as follows.

ASIC The ASIC is a NEC µPD95137GD-5ML, which is consisted of the oscillator, the memory control circuit, the video control circuit, the parallel I/F, the engine control circuit and the general I/O control circuit. Its package is a 208-pin QFP. (1) Oscillator circuit This circuit generates the main clock of 49.08434 for the CPU by the internal oscillator. This clock is demultiplied into two and fed to the CPU. (2) Memory control circuit This block generates each control signal (RAS, CAS, OE, WE, MA) for the internal DRAM and the SIMM. Writing into the DRAM is performed by a early write method. The refresh is performed at the same timing of the ROM access or during nonaccess period for the CPU by the CBR (Cas Before Ras). (3) Video control circuit The video control block provides the FIFO and stores one laster data. Writing into the FIFO is performed by the DMA or CPU. (4) Parallel I/F The parallel I/F block performs the DMA data transmission after receiving data from the external device. (5) Engine control block This block is the I/O for connecting to the driver PCB, and controls the motor, solenoids, and sensors. (6) General I/O control circuit This is for the EEPROMs, etc.

ROM A 2 MBytes of memory area for ROM is secured by using two pieces of 8Mbit-ROM. In the case of using the EEPROM, NEC µPD27C8000 or equivalent should be used, whose access speed should be 120 ns or less. Its package is a 42-pin DIP. The CPU accesses this memory area by the two-wait access method.

RAM A 2 MBytes of memory area for RAM is assigned by using four pieces of 4Mbit-DRAM. The access speed of DRAM should be 80 ns or less. The CPU accesses this memory area by one-wait access method. The refresh is performed by CBR (Cas Before Ras). The following DRAMs can be used. M5M44170AJ-8 (Mitsubishi) HM514170AJ-8 (Hitachi) µPD424170LE-70, -80, -70L, -80L (NEC)

EEPROM A 4 Kbits EEPROM is used, which is controlled by ASIC. The following EEPROM can be used. ST24C04 M1 X24C04 S8 (SGS-THOMSOM) (Xicor)

Option I/F The address bus A1-A5 and the data bus D0-D7 are used for this option I/F, whose memory area is 32 Bytes. In order to cope with the access speed of respective option I/F board a selection of 1, 2, 3, or 4 wait is possible by a setting of the register inside the ASIC. The following are the description for each pin assignment.

Option RAM A 72-pin SIMM whose access time is 80 ns or less can be used. The refresh is performed only by CBR (Cas Before Ras), but the self-refresh is not used. The page read and the page write are not used. The CPU accesses this option RAM by one-wait access method.
