This README file describes Novell Internet Access Server 4 product
limitations. Check the NetWire service for any PTFs (patches and fixes)
that might address these limitations.

Using TCP/IP Applications with the Novell IPX/IP Gateway
--------------------------------------------------------
Consider the following information if you use TCP/IP WinSock-compliant
applications on a client on which the Novell IPX/IP Gateway is installed.

WinSock DLL Files
-----------------
The Novell IPX/IP Gateway does not provide support for UDP or ICMP
(raw sockets). Therefore, all applications that require these protocols
might be partially or completely impaired.

Ping and DNS lookup functionality through the Novell IPX/IP Gateway is
provided by an application called WinPing.

Novell's 16-Bit and 32-Bit Client TCP/IP Stacks
-----------------------------------------------
All DOS LIBSOCK.LIB or WLIBSOCK.DLL Windows applications written with
Novell's LAN WorkPlace for DOS Developer's Toolkit or LAN WorkShop
software developer's kit (SDK) will not function because the Novell
IPX/IP Gateway provides only a WinSock interface.

All applications that require ICMP functionality are not able to utilize
this functionality with the Novell IPX/IP Gateway. This limitation
includes applications such as ping and traceroute.

Other TCP/IP Stacks
-------------------
All applications that are not compliant with the WinSock 1.1
specification do not function with the Novell IPX/IP Gateway.

If you are using Microsoft TCP/IP on Windows 95, run the Switcher to
disable the Novell IPX/IP Gateway before removing the gateway. If you
remove the gateway before you disable it, you must rename the files
listed below on the left to the filenames listed below on the right.

Using LAN WorkPlace and LAN WorkGroup
-------------------------------------
None of the applications provided with version 4.x will function with
the Novell IPX/IP Gateway. To use these applications, you must use
native IP instead of the Novell IPX/IP Gateway.

The NFS client and TFTP components of version 5 will not function with
the Novell IPX/IP Gateway. To use the NFS client and TFTP, you must use
native IP instead of the Novell IPX/IP Gateway. To use X Server with the
Novell IPX/IP Gateway, you must configure it to use TCP.

Using the Real Audio Protocol
-----------------------------
To use Real Audio, you must manually select the option to use TCP instead
of UDP.

Checking Your Path Statement
----------------------------
For the Client 32 software to function properly, the directory where the
Client 32 files reside must be listed first in your path statement.

Upgrading Netscape Navigator
----------------------------
Novell Internet Access Server 4 includes Netscape Navigator 2.01E. To
upgrade Netscape Navigator to version 3.0, see Novell's Web site at
http://www.novell.com/intranetware/nav.

Installing on a Non-English Version of NetWare 4.11
---------------------------------------------------
After you install Novell Internet Access Server 4 on a non-English version
of NetWare 4.11, "BAD MESSAGE" is displayed when you configure some of
the IPX options in INETCFG. When this occurs, copy the IPXCFG.MSG file from
SYS:\SYSTEM\NLS\4 to SYS:\SYSTEM\NLS\x, where x is the number of the
language you are using. The language numbers are as follows:

German 7
French 6
Portuguese 12
Spanish 14 (Latin America)
Spanish 19 (Spain)
Italian 8

In addition, some NLM files provided by Novell Internet Access Server 4
might not load or function properly because they are not language-enabled.
If this occurs, copy the corresponding English message file to the
appropriate language directory, as described previously in this section.
For example, if the ADSP.NLM file does not load, copy the ADSP.MSG file to
the appropriate language directory.

Establishing a WAN Connection to a NetWare MultiProtocol Router 3.1 Server
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
To establish a WAN connection to a server running NetWare MultiProtocol
Router 3.1, you must first copy PPPTSM.NLM from the SYS:/SYSTEM directory
on the server running Novell Internet Access Server 4 to the SYS:/SYSTEM
directory on the server running NetWare MultiProtocol Router 3.1.

Installing Remotely to Multiple Servers
---------------------------------------
When installing Novell Internet Access Server 4 remotely to multiple
servers, you must select one server at a time. You can install on a second
server only after the installation on the first server is complete. If you
select multiple servers at the same time, you receive the following message:

PINSTALL-3.1-209: License number xxxxxxxx is already used by another server.
Give a different license diskette.

Using Novell Internet Access Server 4 with NetWare for OS/2 or SFT III
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The WAN functionality provided with Novell Internet Access Server 4 is not
supported on servers running NetWare for OS/2 or SFT III.

Using Remote Client Dial-up Through a NetWare Connect Server
------------------------------------------------------------
When you use a dial-up connection to access the Novell IPX/IP Gateway using
Windows 95 Remote Access Service (RAS) and Client 32, or using Windows
Dialer and Client 32 on Windows 3.11, the connection to the Novell IPX/IP
Gateway cannot be established. To establish a connection to the Novell
IPX/IP Gateway, enter the following commands at the DOS prompt after the
dial-up client successfully connects to the NetWare Connect server:

UNLOAD TCPIP
LOAD TCPIP

After entering the commands, you can return to Windows to access the
Internet or Web servers using Netscape Navigator.

If you cannot access your IPX network or if you receive the message "network
access denied," change to the F: drive at the DOS prompt. When you return
to Windows, you should be able to see the entire IPX network.

Adding a New License
--------------------
If you are increasing the Novell IPX/IP Gateway license limit using a new
license diskette, you must enter the following commands at the system prompt
of the Novell IPX/IP Gateway server before the increased license limit can
take effect:

UNLOAD IPXGW
REINITIALIZE SYSTEM

Establishing ISDN Connections to Internet Service Providers
-----------------------------------------------------------
To connect to an Internet service provider using ISDN, you probably will
be required to select Unnumbered WAN Network Mode when configuring your
WAN interface. Because Novell Internet Access Server 4 might not function
properly with Numbered mode, we recommend that you use Unnumbered mode
to save one of your premium IP addresses and to avoid possible connection
problems.

Logging in to Multiple Novell Directory Services Trees Simultaneously
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If a Novell IPX/IP Gateway client is logged in to two or more Novell
Directory Services (NDS) trees at the same time and access control is
turned on, the client is not allowed access through the gateway.

Configuring Access Control
--------------------------
Although SNMP is included as a menu option for adding a service restriction
in access control, it uses UDP and is therefore not supported.

Configuring IP Filtering
------------------------
If you have an IP filter configured for an ISDN interface, the filter
might not function properly when the ISDN link goes down or when the router
is restarted. Because this condition can cause problems with security, we
recommend that you do not use IP filtering on an ISDN interface.
