WARNING
THE 5216/5220 COPIER IS BULKY. USE PROPER LIFTING TECHNIQUES AND BE CAREFUL WHEN HANDLING THE UNIT. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT TWO PEOPLE REMOVE THE COPIER FROM THE SHIPPING CONTAINER AND MOVE IT TO ITS OPERATING LOCATION.
1. Using two people, remove the copier from its shipping container. 2. Remove all tape and packing material from the copier's exterior. 3. Open the platen cover and remove the shipping material.

4. Remove the scanner lock down screw. Note: Use a coin to remove the scanner lock down screw. The scanner lock down screw must be installed when transporting the unit. Scanner Lock Down Screw

Environment Requirements
Avoid installing the copier in a location having any of the following conditions: · Do not subject the machine to an environment having extreme dampness, humidity, or dust accumulation. · The copier should not be exposed to direct sunlight. · The unit should not be located in an area that is poorly ventilated. · The machine should not be installed near heaters, air conditioners, or areas which can potentially have extremes in temperature and/or humidity. · Follow the minimum space requirement and allow plenty of space around the machine for servicing and proper ventilation.

Power Requirements
1. Verify the following: · Check the outlet for proper wiring. · A grounded 3-wire outlet must be used. IF A CORRECTLY WIRED AND GROUNDED OUTLET, THAT MEETS LOCAL CODES IS NOT USED, ELECTRICAL LEAKAGE MAY OCCUR. UNDER SUCH CONDITIONS, FIRE AND/OR ELECTRICAL SHOCK MAY RESULT.

WARNING
2. A dedicated outlet is recommended for this unit and its accessories. · To avoid the exposure lamp from flickering, it is recommended not top connect the unit to the same circuit containing any other major power consuming equipment or light fixtures. 3. The wiring for supplying power to the unit should be kept simple, come directly from the power panel, and meet local codes. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS TURN THE COPIER'S MAIN ON/OFF SWITCH OFF, AND DISCONNECT THE POWER CORD WHEN PERFORMING ANY INSTALLATION PROCEDURE.

TD Cartridge Installation
1. Open the bypass tray.

2. Using the green handle on the right side access door pull the access side door out. Note: The right side access door must be opened before opening the front door. The front door must be closed before closing the right side access door.

3. Grasp the edges of the front door and open it as shown in the figure.

4. Remove the blue screw from the upper section of the copier. · It is located near the top of the TD cartridge.

When installing machines that do not have the TD cartridge factory installed, do the following: 5. Unpack and shake a new TD cartridge a few times as shown. · Shake the cartridge horizontally as shown by the arrow.

White Plastic Cover 6. Remove the white plastic cover from the TD cartridge magnet roller.
7. Remove the cover by pulling it in the direction as indicated by the arrow.

8. While holding the green handle slide the TD cartridge into the unit.

9. Using the long blue shoulder screw (packed with the machine) secure the TD cartridge. Note: This screw is not the same blue screw that was previously removed. Screw
10. Close the front door. Note: The front door must be closed before closing the right side access door. 11. Close the right side access door.

Releasing The Drawer Pressure Plate
Note: Each drawer has a pressure plate key lock that holds the pressure plate down. It must be removed and saved.

1. Lift up on the drawer handle and pull the drawer out.
2. While pushing down on the paper pressure plate, remove the pressure plate key lock by turning it counter-clockwise.
3. Store the paper pressure plate key lock in the location shown.

Drawer Paper Size Setup
1. Lift up on the drawer handle and pull the drawer out. 2. Press the pressure plate down to lock in place. 3. Squeeze the latch on the front guide and slide the guide until it's indicator aligns with the width paper size of the paper to be used. 4. Move the paper length guide to the appropriate slot in the tray for the paper selected.

Note: When using 11" x 17" paper, store the paper length guide in the designated location in the left front of the drawer. 5. Place the selected sized copy paper in the drawer. Note: The drawer indicates the amount of paper that can be loaded. 6. Install the appropriate paper size label in the recess on the front of the drawer. 7. Push the drawer back into the copier. Note: Use the following procedure to program the copier for the desired paper size contained in each drawer. 8. Plug in the power cord. 9. Turn the main ON/OFF switch ON. 10. Select the COPY mode.

Note: The COPY mode must be selected to make the paper size adjustment. If the machine is in either the printer or fax mode, the paper size adjustment can not be made. 11. Press the PAPER SIZE ENTER key (1). (The selected paper source indictor (drawer) (2) and its corresponding paper size indicator (3) will blink.)

12. Using the TRAY SELECT key (4), select the desired drawer (5).

13. Using the ORIGINAL SIZE ENTER key (1), select the desired paper size (2).

14. If you completed all paper size adjustments go to step 15. If you have additional paper size changes to program, go to step 18. 15. Press the START key.
16. Press the PAPER SIZE ENTER key. The procedure is now finished. 17. Verify that the image correctly positioned on the copy paper. Note: Paper orientation in drawers must be the same as the orientation of the original document. A. Place a test original on the exposure glass. B. Make a copy from drawer(s) just adjusted. C. If the placement of the image on the copy does not match the original image follow the adjustment procedures in the Adjustment Section to correct the image center location.
18. Press the START key. 19. Go to step 11 and continue.

The SS516-2 system stand is a 2 drawer unit with a total capacity of 500 sheets of copy paper. The SS516-1 system stand is a 1drawer unit with a capacity of 250 sheets of copy paper.

WARNING
TO PREVENT ELECTRICAL SHOCK. ALWAYS TURN THE COPIER'S MAIN ON/ OFF SWITCH OFF AND DISCONNECT THE POWER CORD BEFORE DOING ANY INSTALLATION PROCEDURE.
1. Turn the copier's main ON/OFF switch OFF. 2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. 3. Remove seven screws securing the copier's rear cover and remove it.

4. Remove six screws securing the shield plate (1) to the copier and remove the shield.

5. Remove 2 screws securing the copier's lower rear cover (2) and remove the cover.

6. Using a side cutters, remove the filler plate from the copier's base.

7. Place the copier on the system stand and secure the units together using the four retaining plates. Note: The right front retaining plate is different from the other three.

8. Remove the gear lock (with the red tag) shipping retainer.

9. Install the Ground Plate on the copier using the 2 (M3) machine screws. Note: If the FAX-516 Option or the PCL-516 Option will be installed in either the 5216 or the 5220 copier, the ground plate is not used.

11. Install the System Stand Interface Harness between the 5216 and system stand.
Caution
Route the wires so the shield plate does not pinch the wire harness or any other wires.
A. Route the harness as shown making sure it does not touch high voltage wires. B. Plug the harness connector into main logic PWA receptacle [1] CN10. C. Go to step 13. 1

12. Install the system stand interface harness between the 5220 and the system stand. A. Plug harness connector [1] into the receptacle on the SS Interface PWA. B. Using a screw, secure the harness ground wire [2] to the SS Interface PWA.

13. Reinstall the shield plate on the copier using the 6 screws.

Caution
To prevent machine malfunction, route the wires so the shield plate does not pinch or cut the wire harness or other wires.
Note: Do not install the shield plate if other options are to be installed. When reinstalling the shield plate, route the system stand interface harness through the notch. 14. Secure the ground wire terminal (1) to the copier at as shown. 15. Install the large ferrite core as shown on the 5216's power cord. Note: DO NOT install the large ferrite core on the 5220 Copier. 16. Restrict the core's movement by installing the core restrainer (a tie strap). 17. Adjust the drawers to the desired paper size. 5. Open the front door. 6. Raise the T/D cartridge's green release lever. Note: If a blue screw is found on the T/D cartridge, remove and discard it. 7. Grasp the handle and pull the T/D cartridge out.

8. Grasp each end of the front door and flex the center of the door downward and remove the door from its hinge studs. Note: For adequate clearance, it may be helpful to remove drawer 1 before removing the front door.

9. Open the platen cover or ADF. 10. Remove the five screws that secure the right cover (3) and remove the right cover. 11. Remove the twelve screws that secure the front cover/ control panel to the copier. 12. Carefully pull the copier's front cover/control panel a short distance from the machine and disconnect the control panel ribbon cable [1]. Note: A ground wire is also connected to the front cover/ control panel. 13. Disconnect the ground wire and place the front cover/ control panel [2] in a safe place.

Note: When installing a copier with an exit tray full sensor actuator arm that is gray, proceed to step 15, if the arm is not gray, proceed to step 18. 15. Wipe the surface of the actuator arm with alcohol. 16. Remove the backing from the mylar. 17. Install the mylar on the exit tray full detector arm as shown. Arm

18. Remove the left cover (5 screws). 19. Rotate the exposed exit tray cam arm upward until it stops in the UP position. Note: Do not change the position until the operation is checked at a later time.

20. Insert the long tab on the left end of the 1-bin tray into the horizontal groove [1] located in the copier's left inner wall. 21. Insert the tray's rear hinge pin into the hole in the rear cam arm [3]. 22. Insert the tray's front hinge pin into the hole in the front cam arm [2].

23. Locate the optical cushion and cut off the portion indicted with diagonal lines at the location shown. This will allow the 1-bin tray drive motor to be installed correctly. Note: If there is no optical cushion disregard this step and continue to the next step.

24. Align the guide pin as you insert the 1-bin tray drive motor into the frame. Note: The ground strap must be in contact with the frame. (See enlargement.) 25. Secure the 1-bin tray drive motor with one screw.

28. Install the actuator spacer if the exit tray full actuator is NOT gray in color. Note: If the exit tray full actuator is gray in color, go to step 29. A. Remove the fan housing by releasing the locking tab on the right side (at bottom) of the housing. B. Insert the exit tray full actuator spacer on the 1-bin tray drive shaft. C. Position the spacer as shown. D. Reinstall the fan housing.

29. If the exit tray full actuator is gray do the following: A. Reconnect the ground wire to the front cover/control panel. B. Reconnect the ribbon cable to the front cover/control panel. (Blue band up.) C. Install the TD cartridge. D. Install the front cover/control panel. E. Install the right cover. F. Close the platen cover or ADF. G. Install the front door. H. Install the drawer (if removed). I. Install the right side access door.

30. Remove the copier's rear cover.

31. Remove the RFI shield plate.

32. Use diagonal cutters to cut and separate the ends of the jumper wire JP5 (on the main logic PWA). 33. Install the RFI shield plate. 34. Install the rear cover. 35. Verify the correct operation of the ET-516 by do the following procedure. A. Plug the power cord into the outlet. B. Turn the main ON/OFF switch ON. C. Enter Service Mode 3-4 by pressing the following control panel keys in sequence; CLEAR, INTERRUPT, 0, INTERRUPT, 3, START, 4, START. D. The 1-bin tray will move up and then down and stop automatically after the test is complete. Indicating correct operation.

Note: The LCD panel option is required when either the FAX-516 option or the PCL-516 option is installed. Install the LCD panel option and the PWA expansion box BEFORE installing either the FAX-516 option or the PCL-516 option.

13. Install the LCD unit as shown. · Insert the 2 locking tabs [2] into their associated mounting slots. · Secure the LCD panel with one screw. 14. Plug the ribbon cable into the control panel connector with the cable's blue line [3] facing up. 1 2

15. If the FAX-516 option is to be installed do the following: A. Plug the fax key keypad's ribbon cable into the connector on the control panel (with the blue line facing up). B. Install the fax keypad as shown. C. Insert its locking tabs into their associated mounting slots. D. Retain the unit with 2 screws.

16. Install the exposure level label by doing the following: A. Remove the protective sheet from the control panel and backing from the resolution label. B. Position and adhere the label to the left of the resolution indicators (LEDs) on the control panel. Note: Be sure the words on the label are aligned with the indicator LEDs. 17. Reinstall the following: A. Ground wire B. Ribbon cable to the control panel (Blue side up) C. Control panel D. Front cover E. Drawers F. Right side access door 18. Close all covers and doors and bypass tray.

21. Remove the RFI shield plate.

22. If a ground plate is present, remove and discard it. 23. Align the PWA expansion box on the two guide pins. 24. Install the PWA expansion box using four M3 silver colored screws. 25. Make sure that the AC cord is routed as shown in the illustration enlargement. 26. Install the FAX-516 or PCL-516 options using the procedures in this chapter. If the image size of the 2 copies is different, adjust the main scan and sub-scan magnification using the procedures in the Adjustment Section. 24. Check ADF Image Centering A. Place a test original on the exposure glass. B. Make a copy from the exposure glass. C. Place a test original in the ADF original tray. D. Make a copy from the tray. E. Compare the two copies. F. If the location of the center of the image on the 2 copies is different, use the procedure in the Adjustment Section to adjust ADF image centering. 25. Check the ADF Image Leading Edge Position A. Place a test original on the exposure glass. B. Make a copy from the exposure glass. C. Place a test original in the ADF original tray. D. Make a copy from the tray. E. Compare the two copies. F. If the leading edge position of the image on the 2 copies is different, adjust the ADF leading edge position by using the procedure in the Adjustment Section.

26. Check the Position of the Platen Cover Open/Close Sensor Note: The Platen Cover Open/Close Sensor adjustment is used only on the 5220 copier to adjust the platen cover open/close sensor's position. Its position is adjusted to maintain an optimum distance of between 8.5 and 11inches (216 and 280 mm) when either a platen cover or a ADF on a 5220 copier is open. A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. Raise the ADF. Place a letter size test original (8.5" x 11") on the exposure glass. Note that the display shows the correct size. Lower the ADF to 2 inches above the exposure glass. Remove the original from the exposure glass. The original size indication should not change. Slowly raise the ADF again until the display changes again. Measure the distance from the exposure glass to the handle on the ADF. The distance MUST BE between 8.5 to 11 inches (216 to 280 mm). If the 5220 copier open/close sensor is not in specification, perform the adjustment according to the procedure in the Adjustment Section.
