Functional Description
2.0 Functional Description
DATAPOWERTM is an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), which delivers constant power to the connected equipment regardless of what happens to the mains. All electrical noise and disturbances that could cause damages will be filtered away.
Fig. 1: Perfect power supply under all conditions
2.1
Working principle
The main components of the DATAPOWERTM are: a. Power factor corrector b. Inverter c. Batteries

Functional Description
a. Power factor corrector: The power factor corrector is an active component which is able to transform high or low mains voltage to a nominal output voltage. It draws a pure sinusoidal current no matter how the load current looks. Inverter: The inverter handles both the charging of the batteries and the supply of the load. Batteries: In case of a total power failure the energy will be taken from the built-in batteries. If the power failure is of a longer duration than the batteries are dimensioned for, the UPS can start a fully controlled shut-down of the connected computer system.

Start and Operation of the System
3.0 Start and Operation of the System
3.1 Start up procedure
The DATAPOWERTM DP100E Series can be operated by any person with no previous experience of a UPS system. When the mains and the load cables are connected to the DATAPOWERTM DP100E Series it is started simply by: Switching on the mains fuse (F001) on the rear side. The DATAPOWERTM will perform a self-check procedure ending with the LED display showing red/yellow/green meaning that everything is ok. Switching on the button on the front of the DATAPOWERTM. The acoustic alarm will give a little beep when output power is available. Switching on the load.
-
-
The DATAPOWERTM will always be shipped with fully charged batteries, but due to transport and possible storage time the energy content in the batteries might not be 100% (indicated by a yellow LED bar). When installed it is recommeded to test the system. See Chapter 5.0: Preventive Maintenance.
3.2
LED indications
The LED bar on the front can give a lot of information by means of colour and size of the bar. The principle is: Green = OK. Yellow = OK, but . . . . . Red = DANGER!! Might loose output. Further an acoustic alarm will be activated in battery operation, bypass operation, and fault conditions. (The alarm is muteable).

FLASHING YELLOW
Indicates that the battery is wearing out and needs to be changed. It does not give the full back-up time. The alarm may occur during either automatic or manual battery test. The alarm announcement is removed by pressing the mute button twice. Overload !! System error. DATAPOWERTM switches off within a few seconds. The DATAPOWERTM is in bypass. This alarm can also be caused by faulty batteries if the battery voltage during either the automatic or manual battery test drops to below 1/2 energy. (Battery switches off or totally defect). The alarm announcement can be removed by pressing the mute button twice. The batteries should be replaced immediately as there is no back-up time left.

Options and Accessories
4.0 Options and Accessories
Due to the modular design of the DATAPOWERTM a lot of options and accessories are available. Definition of an option is that a tool is needed for mounting. Therefore it is normally mounted at the factory or by a skilled service technician. Accessories are external hardware. If further information is needed besides the mentioned, please also see the Installation Guide.
4.1
NOTE: The DP100E Series must only be connected to manual bypass panels manufactured by Silcon. If other manual bypass panels but those manufactured by Silcon are used, the UPS system may be damaged and the warranty given by Silcon is repealed.
External manual bypass switch
The external manual bypass switch isolates the DATAPOWERTM so service can be carried out safely without any interruption to the load. Q001: 0: I: Normal : Supply voltage to DATAPOWERTM is OFF. Supply voltage to DATAPOWERTM is ON. The DATAPOWERTM is running in normal operation. The electrical load is supplied directly from the DATAPOWERTM. The electrical load is supplied via the bypass switch from mains.
Q002:
Bypass :
NOTE: When the external manual bypass switch is switched from ,,Normal" to ,,Bypass" the output voltage is no longer adjusted or controlled by the DATAPOWERTM.

Preventive Maintenance
5.0 Preventive Maintenance
The maintenance of the DATAPOWERTM should be carried out by trained service engineers. We recommend that you enter into a service and maintenance contract. WARNING: The tests are carried out in order to detect possible failure in the DATAPOWERTM. It is therefore recommended to save all work on the connected load before tests are being started. Battery tests should preferably be made during uncritical periods for computer operation safety reasons.
5.1
Test of batteries
Before the test is carried out it must be ensured that the batteries are fully charged (24 hours in normal operation). Automatic battery check During battery test there is no battery operation indication on the MultiCom and the COM-PORTTM. This happens due to the fact that a battery test must not influence a connected computer. Battery test is automatically carried out every third month, if the automatic battery test function is set. The battery test is started when the batteries are indicated as fully charged. There is no alarm given for battery operation and the display shows normal operation. a. b. c. d. Let the DATAPOWERTM run in normal operation for 24 hours. Then reset the LED display by switching off the mains fuse (F001). Let the DATAPOWERTM run for 30 seconds and then switch the mains fuse on again. Now a new discharge test is made and if the yellow bar is still flashing in recharge mode the batteries are worn out. Please contact your local dealer.
-
Manual battery check Manual battery test is started by pressing the button "mute" for 5 secs. (This can not be done from the remote LED panel). The battery test can only be started if the batteries are indicated fully charged (constant green LED indication). During manual battery operation the light diodes behave like during normal battery operation, but the acoustic signal is switched off. By automatic and manual battery test the batteries are only discharged 25% so that there is still back-up time left. If battery operation is required during battery test or before the batteries are fully recharged the display will indicate the actual available back-up time. (This will probably result in a change of time on the display). A battery operation indication will at the same time be given.
NOTE: Lead-acid batteries must be separated from equipment and disposed of as notifiable waste. The batteries can also be returned to Silcon. Some batteries may have their "+" and "-" terminals in opposite position than normally.
5.2
Replacement of batteries
The built-in batteries are designed to 5 years of service life. It is therefore recommended to replace the batteries every 3rd - 5th year or when an annual check gives an unsatisfactory result. Please contact you local dealer.

Economy Mode
6.0 Economy mode
To achieve additional savings, the DATAPOWERTM can be programmed to run in economy mode. In economy mode the load is supplied directly from mains. In this mode the inverter is stand by which gives a very high efficiency. However the DATAPOWERTM is monitoring the mains and the output voltage and will in case of mains failure uninterrupted switch into battery operation.
