Safety Instructions
2.1 X-Ray Radiation Precaution Excessive high voltage can produce potentially hazardous X-Ray Radiation. To avoid such hazards, the high voltage must not be above 31.0KV(14") or 35.0KV(21") under any conditions. The nominal value of the high voltage of this television is 22.5KV(14") or 26.5KV(21") at max beam current (maximum brightness) under a 90-260V, 50/60HZ AC power source. 2.2 Safety Precaution WARNING:Service should not be attempted by anyone unfamiliar with the necessary precautions on this television. The followings are the necessary precautions to be
¡
observed before servicing. 1). Since the chassis of this television is directly connected to the AC power line (HOT chassis), an isolation transformer should be used during any dynamic service to avoid possible shock hazard. 2). Always discharge the picture tube anode to the CRT conductive coating before handing the picture tube. The picture tube is highly evacuated and, if broken, glass fragments will be violently expelled. Use shatterproof goggles and keep picture tube away from the body while handing. 3). When replacing a chassis in the cabinet, always be certain that all the protective devices are put back in place, such as non-metallic control knobs, insulating covers, shields isolation resistor-capacitor network, etc. 4). Before returning the set to the customer, always perform an AC leakage current check on the exposed metallic parts of the cabinet such as terminals, screwheads, metal overlays control shafts, etc., to insure that the set is safe to operate without danger of electrical shock. 2.3 Product Safty Notice Many electrical parts in this chassis have special safety-related characteristics. These characteristics are often passed unnoticed by a visual inspection and the protection afforded by them cannot necessarily be obtained by using replacement, rated for higher voltage, wattage, etc. Replacement parts which have these special safety characteristics are identified in this manual and its parts list. Before replacing any of these components, read the parts list in this manual carefully. The use of substitute replacement parts which do not have the same safety characteristics as specified in the parts list may create shock, fire, x-ray radiation of other hazards. 2.4 Automatic Degaussing A degaussing coil is mounted around the picture tube, so that external degaussing after mobbing the TV should be unnecessary. But the receiver must be properly degaussed upon installation. The degaussing coil operates for about 1 second after the power is switched ON. If the set is moved or turned in a different direction, the power should be OFF for at least 10 minutes. If the chassis or parts of the cabinet become magnetized, poor color purity will result. If this happens, use an external degaussing coil. Slowly move the degaussing coil around the faceplate of the picture tube and the
¢
sides and front of the receiver, slowly withdraw the coil to a distance of about 6 feet before turning power OFF.

trap and then amplified through the video amplifier, the signal is sent as TV (internal) CVBS signal to the video selector switch from pin 44. It may also be sent back to pin 44 and 42 after Y/C separation in the external comb filter. The sound intermediate-frequency signal outputted from pin 52 is inputted again through pin 54 and the second sound intermediate-frequency signal will be selected by means of the internal bandpass filter and PLL circuit. Then, after the second sound intermediate-frequency signal is processed through the limiting amplifier, FM demodulator, audio selector switch and DC volume controlling amplification circuit, the TV (internal) sound frequency signal is generated and applied to the audio selector switch. Meanwhile, the AV (external) sound signal inputted through AV terminal is inputted from pin 51 and also applied to the audio selector switch. The audio signal is outputted from pin 1 and pin 2 and applied respectively to the audio power amplifier and AV (audio output). The audio selector switch is controlled by the bus, and under the control of the bus , the sound phase-locked loop(SPLL) performs sound system conversion through the frequency mixer. While picture demodulation and amplification are performed, intermediate or high amplification AGC voltage are also generated depending on the intensity of signal and applied to the tuner's AGC control end. If the frequency of the intermediate-frequency signal deviates from the standard one, AFT circuit will generate an AFT voltage relevant to the intermediate-frequency deviation, which will be outputted from pin 10 and sent to the tuner (analogue AFT) or microprocessor (digital AFT) for fulfilling AFT function. 2). Decoding circuit PAL/NTSC decoding circuit part is mainly composed of internal/external(TV/AV) input CVBS clamping circuits, video signal selector switch circuit, bandpass filter used for Y/C separation (with automatically calibrated frequency ) and trap (with automatically calibrated frequency ) circuit, pealing resolution improvement circuit for brightness signal processing, corer circuit, black-level extension circuit, contrast control circuit, as well as chrominance signal decoding circuit, etc. The chrominance signal decoding circuit consists of internal/external chrominance signal selector switch , ACC amplifier, color subcarrier VCO generation circuit, PAL/NTSC decoding ciruit, RGB matrix circuit and so on. This part of circuit also includes display RGB input clamping circuit, display contrast control circuit, display RGB signal selector switch and RGB energizing output circuit. This part of circuit mainly uses pins 14~21 and 31~46 of LA76810. This decoding circuit functions to decode the internal CVBS or external C singal inputted at pin 44 or the external CVBS or external Y signal inputted at pin 42 in LA76810 as PAL or NTSC signals to generate RGB key color output. It performs control of the brightness, contrast, color saturation,
hue (only for NTSC system) and resolution of pictures under the control of I2C bus. It also inserts the display character RGB signal into the picture RGB signal for fulfilling screen display. When SECAM receiving function is available, the SECAM system CVBS signal is outputted from pin 40,sent to the SECAM demodulation circuit LA7642 requiring no adjustment and demodulated through SECAM before (R-Y) and (B-Y) signals are sent from pins 35 and 34 back to LA76810 for internal processing, so as to fulfill SECAM signal decoding and generate RGB signal output. 3). Scanning circuit The horizontal/vertical scanning signal processing circuit is mainly composed of the horizontal 4MHZ VCO oscillation circuit, double AFC horizontal synchronization circuit, horizontal/vertical frequency division circuit, horizontal/vertical sync separation circuit, horizontal/vertical energizing pulse amplification output circuit and so on. This part of circuit mainly uses pins 23~33 of LA76810. It mainly functions to generate oscillation by means of the build-in 4MHZ VCO circuit. Therefore , without an external horizontal oscillation crystal, the horizontal-frequency signal is obtained through 1/256 frequency division and is sent through AFC loop and shifting-phase circuit to fulfill the synchronization function and generate the horizontal energizing pulse, which is outputted from pin 27. Then, the horizontal-frequency pulse is subjected to synchronous frequency division through the vertical frequency divider circuit and thus a vertical energizing sawtooth wave signal is generated and outputted from pin 23. Outlines of the functions of various LA76810A pins are described in Table 1. Table 1. Functional description of LA76810A pins .

5.3. LA7840 vertical output integrated circuit LA7840 is the integrated vertical scanning output circuits, manufactured by Sanyo company, mainly used for color TV sets and CRT displays. It needs to be used with such I2C bus controlled video signal processing circuits as LA76810A of Sanyo to fulfill the vertical scanning function. DC coupling energization is adopted between this circuit and the I2C bus controlled video signal processing circuit. All the color TV deflection system can be processed through bus control. In addition, LA7840 contains overheat protection circuit and pump power circuit, which makes the circuit safe and reliable in operation. LA7840 is mainly composed of the output amplifier, pump power circuit and overheat protection circuit. It mainly functions to perform power amplification of the vertical sawtooth wave voltage and drive the vertical deflection coil. The functions of different pins are as shown in Table 3. Table 3. Functional description of LA7840 pins
