Power sources
Using a household AC outlet
FOR UNITED KINGDOM ONLY READ THE CAUTION FOR THE AC MAINS LEAD ON PAGE 7 BEFORE CONNECTION. Connect the AC mains lead firmly to the unit and the outlet.
Using batteries (not included)
The unit cannot be powered by batteries if the AC mains lead is connected.
Memory back-up
During power supply interruption, memory backup batteries (not included) save CD programs and radio stations you have set. These batteries do not power the unit.

Outer row AC mains lead (included) When to change the batteries Sound quality and operations are affected when the batteries are running low. Replace all six batteries. It is also a good idea to replace all the batteries before recording. Removing the batteries Open the battery cover and insert your finger in the hole on the bottom of the unit and push out. When to change the batteries The batteries last about a year. Connect the unit to AC power before replacing the batteries. · Before connecting or disconnecting the AC mains lead, stop the tape and switch [ ] to "TAPE/ " to turn the unit off. The memory batteries are worn out faster if the cord is disconnected with the power still on. Removing the batteries Press the negative end of the number 4 battery and remove the batteries. (Remove the power batteries first.)
Note · The included AC mains lead is for use with this unit only. Do not use it with other equipment. · The function selector switch does not separate entire unit from mains even if in "TAPE/ " position.

To listen to preset channels
The frequency changes one step each time a button is pressed. " " lights when an FM stereo broadcast is being received. Automatic tuning Keep [/ g] or [f/+] depressed and release when the frequency display starts to change. A station with good reception is automatically selected and the process stops. To stop automatic tuning, press [/ g] or [f/+] again. Note Automatic tuning may stop on a frequency where there is no station if there is interference. Press [/ g] and [f/+] to tune if this occurs.
While " " and the preset channel are flashing
Press [/g] or [f/+] to select the desired channel.

To stop play Press [L]. "P" is displayed indicating that the program is still active. Press [L] again and "CLr" is displayed; the program is cleared, and the normal play mode is restored. "FULL": 24 tracks have already been programmed. The program is full.

"NO DISC" is displayed if there is no disc in the unit. Note · If interference occurs to radios or televisions, place the unit as far as possible from this equipment. · Do not press [c CD OPEN/CLOSE] during play, pause or immediately after you inserted the CD and closed the CD lid. CD may be scratched. This unit can play CD-DA (digital audio) format audio CD-R that has been finalized (a process that enables CD-R players to play audio CD-R) upon completion of recording. It may not be able to play some CD-R due to the condition of the recording. It cannot play CD-RW.

Maintenance
If the surfaces are dirty
To clean this unit, wipe with a soft, dry cloth. If the surfaces are extremely dirty, use a soft cloth dipped in a soap-andwater solution or a weak detergent solution. · Never use alcohol, paint thinner or benzine to clean this unit. · Before using chemically treated cloth, read the instructions that came with the cloth carefully.

Turn down the volume and connect the headphones to the [PHONES] jack.

Clean the heads regularly to assure good quality playback and recording. Use a cleaning tape (not included).
Use of Batteries
If this unit is not used for a long period of time or is used only from an AC power source, remove all the batteries to prevent potential damage due to possible battery leakage. · Align the poles (+ and ) properly when inserting the batteries. · Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries. · Do not recharge ordinary dry cell batteries. · Do not heat or disassemble the batteries. Do not allow them to contact flame or water. · Do not keep together with metallic objects such as necklaces. · Do not use rechargeable type batteries. · Do not use batteries if the covering has been peeled off. Mishandling of batteries can damage other items, cause damage to the unit, and may cause a fire through short-circuiting or electrolyte leakage. If electrolyte leaks from the batteries, consult your dealer. Wash thoroughly with water if electrolyte comes in contact with any part of your body.

Caution for AC Mains Lead

("EB" area code model only)
For your safety, please read the following text carefully. This appliance is supplied with a moulded three pin mains plug for your safety and convenience. A 5-ampere fuse is fitted in this plug. Should the fuse need to be replaced please ensure that the replacement fuse has a rating of 5-ampere and that it is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362. Check for the ASTA mark m or the BSI mark o on the body of the fuse. If the plug contains a removable fuse cover you must ensure that it is refitted when the fuse is replaced. If you lose the fuse cover the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained. A replacement fuse cover can be purchased from your local dealer.
WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT EITHER WIRE TO THE EARTH TERMINAL WHICH IS MARKED WITH THE LETTER E, BY THE EARTH SYMBOL n OR COLOURED GREEN OR GREEN/YELLOW. THIS PLUG IS NOT WATERPROOF--KEEP DRY.

How to replace the fuse
The location of the fuse differ according to the type of AC mains plug (figures A and B). Confirm the AC mains plug fitted and follow the instructions below. Illustrations may differ from actual AC mains plug. 1. Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver.
CAUTION!
IF THE FITTED MOULDED PLUG IS UNSUITABLE FOR THE SOCKET OUTLET IN YOUR HOME THEN THE FUSE SHOULD BE REMOVED AND THE PLUG CUT OFF AND DISPOSED OF SAFELY. THERE IS A DANGER OF SEVERE ELECTRICAL SHOCK IF THE CUT OFF PLUG IS INSERTED INTO ANY 13-AMPERE SOCKET.
If a new plug is to be fitted please observe the wiring code as stated below. If in any doubt please consult a qualified electrician.

2. Replace the fuse and close or attach the fuse cover.
IMPORTANT
The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Blue: Neutral, Brown: Live. As these colours may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: The wire which is coloured Blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured Black or Blue. The wire which is coloured Brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured Brown or Red.

Troubleshooting guide
If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, refer to the directory of Authorized Service Centers (enclosed with this unit) to locate a convenient service center, or consult your dealer for instructions.
Common Problem
The unit doesn't work on batteries. "UO1" is displayed. Is the AC mains lead connected to the unit? Disconnect when using batteries. Have the batteries been inserted correctly? Check that the poles (+ and ) are correctly aligned. Replace the batteries or use household AC power.
CD
"E" is displayed. Play doesn't start or display is incorrect. Indicates an incorrect operation. Read the instructions. Clean the CD. Wait for an hour for condensation to dry, then try again. Make sure the label is facing up. Replace the CD if it is scratched, warped, or irregularly shaped.
Cassette
Recording not possible. Poor sound quality. The cassette cannot be ejected or the lid can't be closed when loading a cassette. Has the cassette's tab been removed? Cover the hole with adhesive tape. Clean the heads. The batteries are flat. Replace the batteries or connect to household AC power. Press [/ PLAY] then [L/c STOP/EJECT].
Radio
A lot of noise. Is another remote control being used? Use it further away from this unit. Is a TV on? Move the unit away from the TV or turn it off. RX-D25 only Check the batteries are inserted correctly. Replace the batteries if they are worn.
Remote control
The remote control doesn't work.
