Before Use
Be sure to disconnect the mains cord belore adiusting the voltage selector. Use a minus (-) screwdriver to set the voltage selector (on the rear panel) to the voltage setting for the area in which the unit will be used. (ll the power supply in your area is 1 17 V or 120 V, set to the "127 V" position.) Note that this unit will be seriously damaged if this setting is not made correctly. (There is no voltage selector for some countries; the correct voltage is already set.)

Front Panel Controls and Functions

This indicates the amount of tape travel. When this button is pressed, the readout will be reset to "000".

Tape-select indicators ( auto tape select)
The type of tape being used will be automaticatty detected and the indicator will illuminate.

Timer stand-by switch ( E timer;
This switch is to be used in order to perform an unattended recording or preset playback operation.

Aboul the Dolby HX Pro headroom extension system

Noise is reduced to about one-third. Use this system when playing back tapes recorded by the Dolby noise-reduction system, such as prerecorded music tapes, etc.

By functioning to improve the maximum output level of the tape's high{requency range, this system permits recordings
a drop of the level of the sound source's high-f requency range. ln addition, by using the system in parallel with this unit's noise-reduction system, recording and playback with a greatly extended dynamic range is possible.

Hiss noise is reduced to about one-tenth.

Use this system lor the recording and playback of sound sources that have a wide dynamic range and good tone quality,

With this noise-reduction system, "hiss" noise is reduced to about 1/30. This system is particularly suitable forthe recording and playback of live FM broadcasts and other sound sources with high tone quality and a wide dynamic range.

Note that any sounds on the tape will be automatically erased if a new recording is made on that part of the tape.

With this unit, by following the steps below, it is possible to make non-recorded spaces (4 seconds long) between tunes.

You can make your own uniquely original tapes by using microphones (option) to record your instrumental or vocal
performances.

Connect the microphones to the microphone iack(s). (A microphone connected to the "L" jack will record sounds to the tape's left channel, and a microphone connected to the "R" yack will record sounds to the right channel.) Begin the recording by lollowing the steps described in the "Recording" seclion.

Maintenance
To assure sound quality for recording and playback, be sure to clean the heads after approximately every 10 hours of use. 1) Press the power switch to switch off the electrical power supply of the cassette tape deck. 2) Press the eiect button to open the cassette holder. 3) Clean the heads, pinch roller and the capstan shaft with a cotton swab (or with a soft, lint-free cloth) slightly moistened with alcohol. Do not use any solution other than alcohol for head cleaning.

ln order to maintain good sound quality during recording and it is tecommended that the head assembly be demagnetized when distortion or poor sound quality persist
