4.0. Description of the appliance (in brief)
The CN ...6 is a combined refrigerator-freezer with a NoFrost freezer compartment. It has one compressor. The refrigerator and freezer evaporators are activated via a bistable solenoid valve. The two evaporators are switched in series (see sketch 4.1.). The refrigerator compartment can therefore only be operated in combination with the freezer compartment. However, it is possible to operate the freezer compartment on its own. Refrigerator compartment: The refrigerator compartment is equipped with a foamed-in evaporator, an air sensor and an evaporator sensor. Both sensors can be replaced separately. The air sensor detects the temperature for the temperature display and switches off the refrigeration function. The evaporator sensor registers the temperature for defrosting the refrigerator evaporator and switches the refrigeration function on. Freezer compartment: The freezer compartment is equipped with a NoFrost rear wall evaporator module, a fan module, an air sensor and an evaporator sensor. Both sensors can be replaced separately. The air sensor detects the temperature for the temperature display and switches the refrigeration function on and off. The evaporator sensor activates the freezer fan and the evaporator module defrost function. There is a special defrost drain valve for draining off the defrost water.

Electronics: 6-series Magnetek electronics, operating panel board and power board. The microcontroller is on the power board. 2°C to 50°C +2°C to +11°C Sounds when refrigerator door has been left open for 60 seconds Inside right of refrigerator compartment Switches the compressor on and sets the solenoid valve to position A (refrigerator and freezer compartments are activated). · · · SuperCooling: Defrosting: Refrigerator fan: Sets the solenoid valve to position B (only the freezer compartment is activated). Switches the compressor off according to the values read at the freezer air sensor (logical AND operation). Detects the temperature to be displayed on the refrigerator display

Display range: Setting range (reference setting): Door alarm: Interior light: Refrigerator evaporator sensor: Refrigerator air sensor:

Cools appliance down to +2°C for 6 hours Takes place automatically when the compressor is idle At the top in the middle of the refrigerator rear wall. Can be switched on and off using the button on the operating panel. · · The fan runs when the compressor is running and the solenoid valve is set to position A (refrigerator and freezer compartments are activated). Switches off when door open (reed switch).

Electronics: 6-series Magnetek electronics, operating panel board and power board. The microcontroller is on the power board. 0°C to -40°C -16°C to -26°C Alarm temperature is set at -8°C, regardless of reference setting. The alarm is triggered if temperatures of -8°C or warmer have been displayed for 20 minutes. The alarm function is suppressed for 90 minutes after the defrost heater has been switched on. When the appliance is switched on for the first time, the visual warning light comes on and the audible warning signal is switched off. Door alarm: Reed switch: Sounds when freezer door has been left open for 60 seconds Switches fan off when door is opened

Defrosting:

The defrost phase is activated: - When starting up after 6 hours of accumulated compressor running time. - After an accumulated compressor running time of 12 to a maximum of 60 hours, according to how often and how long the door is opened. When the defrost phase is started, the compressor and the fan are switched off and the defrost heater is switched on. The defrost heater remains on until: - The evaporator has reached +10°C or - 50 minutes have elapsed. The compressor is switched on after a delay of 10 minutes at the end of the heating phase. When activating the SuperFrost function during the defrost phase, the defrost phase will not be interrupted.

Defrost drain valve:

Foamed-in defrost drain valve; can be dismantled for cleaning. Important: valve must be replaced in exactly the right way (see section 9.1., "Installation instructions"). Cools the freezer compartment down to -32°C (quantity-controlled, 30 to 65 hours)

8.0. Special features
8.1. Electrical actuation of solenoid valve
The CN(es) ...6 appliances are equipped with bistable solenoid valves which maintain their switching state after actuation. They are therefore actuated with a short pulse. Switching state A or B also depends on the polarity of the actuation voltage (see sketch).

Negative half-wave switches solenoid valve to B

Positive half-wave switches solenoid valve to A

Result: It is not possible to check actuation with a voltmeter as the actuation pulses are so small. To check actuation of the solenoid valve, we recommend running the self-diagnosis routine. This makes the switching process of the solenoid valve clearly audible.

Switch rules
Compressor switch rules Compressor ON: Freezer air sensor activation temperature or Refrigerator evaporator sensor activation temperature

NB: The reactivation delay of the electronic control system (8 minutes) must have elapsed.

Compressor OFF:

Freezer air sensor deactivation temperature and Refrigerator air sensor deactivation temperature

NB: As soon as the deactivation temperature is reached, a run-on time of 120 seconds is started. Page 10/19

8.2.2

Freezer fan switch rules When the compressor is running and the door is closed

Fan ON:

NB: When starting up, the fan is switched on after a certain period of time.

Fan OFF:

When the compressor is off or Special case: The refrigerator air sensor is too warm and the freezer air sensor is at least 2K below its deactivation temperature. So there is more cooling capacity available for the refrigerator.

NB: The freezer reed switch switches the freezer fan off if the door is opened.
